This years tournament is especially notable because it will honor long-time 窪蹋勛圖厙 College coach, professor, and athletic director Michael Mould, Ph.D., who will serve as honorary chairman of the event.
Dr. Mould served as a college athletic director for 42 years, including 28 years at 窪蹋勛圖厙. While at 窪蹋勛圖厙, Dr. Mould began the men’s soccer program and coached the team for the first three years of its existence, taking it to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament in just his third year.
Dr. Mould was instrumental in developing women’s varsity athletics at 窪蹋勛圖厙, while overseeing the overall growth of varsity athletic programs from two to 10 sports. As coach of the 窪蹋勛圖厙 baseball team, Dr. Mould led the team to 11 NJCAA Eastern Regional Tournament appearances. He also coached the men’s basketball program from 1962-1965.
Dr. Mould was awarded the 1981 Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Chair Award for Distinguished Faculty Service, and served as the chairperson of the committee that developed the design of the Gambal Athletic Center as well as the college tennis complex and the Edmunds Softball Field. Dr. Mould continues to serve the 窪蹋勛圖厙 Athletic Department as a mentor and assists on special projects.
The 窪蹋勛圖厙 Open is always a meaningful event for the entire college community, especially since it supports our Alumni Association Scholarship, said 窪蹋勛圖厙 Alumni Association President Don Cadman. However, this year is even more special because we are honoring Dr. Mike Mould, who for so many years has exemplified the values and mission of 窪蹋勛圖厙 both in the classroom and on the athletic field.
I am honored to once again be a part of the 窪蹋勛圖厙 Open Golf Tournament and Im especially honored to serve as chair for this years event. 窪蹋勛圖厙 has been a huge part of my life for so many years and to have an opportunity to give back this year is even more gratifying.
Students who have received the scholarship are thankful for what it has meant to their education.
Receiving assistance from the 窪蹋勛圖厙 Alumni Association Scholarship and Engagement Fund has really helped me afford my college education, said 窪蹋勛圖厙 student Olivia Brodhead. It also makes me realize that 窪蹋勛圖厙 really is a community where people care about each other. Someday, I hope to assist a 窪蹋勛圖厙 student in the same way.
窪蹋勛圖厙 offers more than 40 undergraduate and graduate degree options in liberal arts and science-based programs in business, communications, education, fine arts, natural science, environmental resource management, geology, and social sciences.
