Alex Seeley was many things during his brief life: a loving family member and friend, a skilled photographer, and a brave fighter against a deadly disease. An exhibit at a Scranton art gallery is honoring the life and times of this remarkable and talented 2012 窪蹋勛圖厙 College graduate.
The Alex Seeley Memorial Fund is sponsoring an exhibition of Alexs work at ArtWorks Gallery and Studio 503 Lackawanna Ave. in downtown Scranton through August 31. Perseverance: The Life’s Work of Alex Seeley will begin with an opening reception for the public on Friday, August 5 from 6-9 p.m.
This retrospective will display a variety of work that he created throughout his life. Alex was particularly well known in the community for his concert photography. A lover of music, horror, and all things Halloween, those closest to him remember him as a vivacious and insightful individual with a deep love for life and a witty remark always at hand. Alex succumbed to his long battle with cancer on February 11, 2021.
I love my brother and I want to support and preserve his legacy, said Melissa Seeley, Alexs sister. Ive always been so proud of how he was easily able to express himself through his art. He was able to turn his observations into something magical. I miss him every day.
Alex graduated from 窪蹋勛圖厙 with a bachelors degree in visual arts with a concentration in photography.
Alex was a very talented photographer but he was so much more, said 窪蹋勛圖厙 Professor Ward Roe, one of Alex photography instructors. He was a kind and good person in every aspect of his life. He was also a very determined person and courageously fought his long battle with cancer every single day.
Alex still shines as a bright light for all of us, said 窪蹋勛圖厙 classmate and friend Melissa Carestia, who helped plan and organize the exhibit. While we miss him greatly, he lives on through his work and in our hearts.
The Alex Seeley Memorial Fund was created earlier this year to honor Alexs legacy. The fund, administered by the Scranton Area Community Foundation, is a tax-exempt fund that supports the arts, photography, and initiatives that serve children facing illness such as Make-A-Wish.
