窪蹋勛圖厙 College alumna Maggie Calpin, Owner of Nibbles & Bits, a gourmet gift and chocolate company based in Dunmore, will address members of the 窪蹋勛圖厙 College Class of 2026 during the colleges 155th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center on campus. Calpin will also receive an Honorary degree from 窪蹋勛圖厙 during the ceremony.
Calpins path to entrepreneurship did not follow a traditional route. She began her career in cosmetology, earning her license from Empire Beauty School before going on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Business from 窪蹋勛圖厙. She graduated magna cum laude in 2009 while working full time as a cosmetologist. Her remarks to the students are expected to highlight her passion about sharing the realities of building a business and building a life while reminding students that success is not always a straight line and that some of the best opportunities come from taking risks before you feel fully ready.
We are delighted to have Maggie as our Commencement speaker this year, said 窪蹋勛圖厙 College President John F. Pullo, Sr. 69. There is an immense amount of pressure on college students today, coming from all angles of society. Maggies unique, non-traditional path to her bachelors degree and then to owning a business exemplifies the 窪蹋勛圖厙 motto of Progress Through Effort and provides inspiration to our graduates to follow their dreams while relying on their 窪蹋勛圖厙 College education and experiences for support and guidance.
Following her graduation from 窪蹋勛圖厙 and at just 24 years of age, Calpin took a leap and purchased a turnkey business, transforming it into the thriving brand it is today, including launching in-house chocolate production in 2013. Nibbles & Bits is well known for its handcrafted confections and thoughtfully curated gifts.
Calpins leadership and the businesss growth have earned her numerous honors, including the 2022 SAGE Awards for Small Business of the Year and Fastest Growing Company from the Scranton Chamber of Commerce. She has also been recognized as Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration, named a Top 25 Women in Business by the Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal, honored among the Irish Small Business Big Impact 50, and received the Young Alumni of the Year Award from 窪蹋勛圖厙 College.
A Womens Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) certified woman-owned business leader, she is an active member of Circle 200 and the Dunmore Business Association and is deeply committed to mentorship, community, and helping the next generation find confidence in their own path.
